Blackparticle is a South Devon based audio studio specialising in mastering, analogue mixing, audio production, live and studio engineering, restoration, digital archiving, and studio consultancy.
Mastering is the core of the work here. Whether you need a single track, an EP or a full album prepared properly, Blackparticle offers a more careful and musically aware alternative to automated processing. The aim is simple: better depth, balance, punch, clarity and translation, without sanding all the life off the recording. Turnaround is often quick when needed.
We work with bands, artists, producers and anyone who cares about sound. Some projects are local, many arrive remotely, and much of the work can be handled entirely online. Alongside mastering, Blackparticle also offers analogue mixing, restoration, archiving, production work and technical studio support.

At the centre of Blackparticle is a hybrid studio built around analogue character, technical precision and long experience. The point is not vintage gear for show, but what it does for the result. A well-judged analogue chain still brings a sense of weight, space, warmth and cohesion that purely in-the-box work often struggles to match.
For artists and bands, that can mean mastering that gives a release more authority and polish, or analogue mixing that adds depth, movement and detail. For other clients, it may mean restoring damaged material, archiving important recordings, producing audio for media, or helping make sense of studio equipment and setup. Whatever the job, the approach is the same: listen carefully, make sensible decisions, and serve the material rather than forcing it through a preset idea of what sound is supposed to be.

The studio includes hand-built British Pultec-style EMI Redd47 EQs, Vari-Mu optical and VCA compression, a restored classic British DDA console rescued from the London Astoria, the custom Blackparticle Recombobulator passive mixer with vintage Neumann preamps, and a UAD Apollo system offering up to 46 dedicated output channels. In practical terms, it is a serious signal path built to add control, musicality and depth, while keeping the source intact.
That combination of analogue hardware, digital flexibility and more than 35 years of experience allows Blackparticle to work across a wide range of projects, from new releases to archive transfers, from subtle finishing work to full technical rescue jobs.
